NOVEMBER 1-2, 2019
The annual festival, held at the Thenstead Center, is a FREE festival featuring award-winning writers. These writers provide community readings and writing workshops. During the Festival a Community Stage is open to all writers and performers, local students perform dramatic readings of works by the visiting writers at the "Drive By Poetry" event and a Creative Writing Contest is held for area youth.
Share your creativity
The Word Crawl is an annual fundraiser for the Festival of Words. It takes place in Downtown Lafayette, the 2nd Saturday of September. Participants find sponsors and join the 12-hour word marathon from noon to midnight. Nearly 50 creatives share poems, stories, songs, drama and all kinds of writings. All ages welcome, and we even have an all-French performance.

Monthly Events.
Our monthly events take place at Chicory's Cafe in Grand Coteau on the last Wednesday of the month from 7 to 9pm. Features include writers, musicians, storytellers and locals sharing personal narratives. The attendees are invited to participate in the open mic to add a line to a group poem. These events are free and appropriate for all ages.
The venue is made available through the generosity of Chicory's Coffee & Cafe. Presentations are videotaped to appear on Acadiana Open Channel.
